The meggering test is used to determine the condition of electrical insulation and is widely used as a general nondestructive test method but is limited to 1,000 volts and may or may not detect small punctures.

 Test outcomes will show:

  • Relative amount of moisture in the insulation
  • Leakage current over dirty or moist surfaces of the insulation
  • Winding deterioration or faults by means of insulation resistance versus time curves

Cove Electric performs cable insulation resistance tests which are most frequently used to test high-voltage cables. Insulation resistance is measured by means of an insulation resistance meter. This is the most informative test for high-voltage cables.
